Kate had an apple today that she unwisely took outside to the swingset and sandbox. At first, she did well...



The abandoned apple was still looking good at this point...


However, it's foray into the sandbox was not so successful. I finally noticed that after it had been dropped a few times and Kate had gotten a mouthful of sand, she decided to ditch it. I mentioned it to her and Jake, ever helpful, hopped out of the sandbox to rescue the fallen fruit.
He gallantly picked it up, wiped it back and forth on the grass to clean it off, and triumphantly held it up as he said, "I ceen it fo you, Kady." It had grass and pine needles all over it--and the sand was still there underneath.

Needless to say, Kate declined the proffered fruit, to Jake's great bewilderment. He informed us that he was planning to eat it himself, although I made him go throw it away.
