"I Can't Wait to be a Mom."

As I was tucking Zoey into bed tonight, she hugged me sweetly and said, "I can't wait to be a mom." I was so touched because until 18 months ago, she was in an orphanage and learning to be in a family has been a process for her. I thought it was so wonderful to hear that she was identifying herself with a nurturing role and wanting to provide it to some children of her own.

That train of thought was short-lived as, with eyes sparkling, she looked at me and said, "Yeah. When I'm a mom I can stay up late."

Yes, we get to stay up late, get up with the children during the night, and then get up with the earliest riser in the morning...translation--Moms don't sleep! :)

Zoey is a doll baby!

Too funny! I'm sure she was thinking about what a beautiful thing it would be to be a mama with children of her own . . . reading bedtime stories . . . tucking each one in . . . kissing them all goodnight . . . surely the staying up late thing was an afterthought. Umm, yeah, right.

I love Kristin's translation. Maybe you should explain that to Zoey --just so she has a heads up! :)

Have a great weekend!

Oh yeah. I have been snookered into tearful pride at hearing something similar only to hear a similar sentiment "yeah, when I get to be a dad, I will watch Power Ranger Jungle Fury and Transformers any time I want." (because these are banned in our house) :) Gotta love these kiddos keeping us on our toes.

Too sweet! Ok...so maybe it's just to stay up right now, but she's certainly got the family roles down! And yes, I would love to come out east and tour. That's on our agenda...some year.

LOL- That is so funny! Touching but very funny!

Sarah can hardly wait to be a MOm too-she want's the control that comes with it! She often tries to take over the home now! But I tell her someday you will be a Mom and you can make that decision- for now I'll make it! ;-)

Too sweet and too funny! And I'm still laughing about the "bedsore" comment from your previous post.

I actually stopped by today because rumor has it that you are hosting a massive two-week Boston vacation next summer. My bloggy friends Lisa and Kristin said the more the merrier (we are a family of 6 in the process of adopting another) and I absolutely can't pass up an offer for two weeks of homecooked meals. (I hear you are a whiz with mac and cheese.)

Seriously though, I've enjoyed "traveling" with you on your adventures through your blog. You and your precious family are such an inspiration.

God Bless,
Kathie
