The Beach- a footnote to yesterday's post

I debated on whether to not to tell this story...

...but it just seemed too good to keep to myself.

So, despite the risk of you thinking poorly of me, I shall tell it.

Several hours into our beach frolic, Jonah came and told his mom that he needed to go potty. Since the port-a-john's were a LONG walk and stunk to high heaven, she told him to go out into the ocean to do the deed.

He gave her a strange look and then went to the waters edge and began to wriggle his swim suit down. I cracked up and alerted Kim to the sight of her four year old's naked buttocks. We were dying laughing as she ran out into the water to give him a lesson on how to discreetly carry out this task. What was even funnier is that although he did go out into the water, he was still assuming the position that boys use and it was totally obvious what he was doing.

Kim and I laughed about this for several minutes and I had the passing thought that it was something my boys had never done.

Ten minutes later...

Jake strolls up holding himself and tells me he has to go potty. I wave him off toward the water and give him permission to 'go' there.

And what to my wondering eyes should appear, but Jake also dropping trou! I rush out to the water (as fast as one can rush when cracking up) and reach him just in time to deactivate the launch sequence. I try to instruct my very confused little guy that he can go with his swimsuit ON. HUH? He looks at me in shock. Yes...you go with your suit ON. He refused to go out into the water, though, and just stood there letting it all go down his leg. Gross!

This morning, we had another interesting episode. This is a new one--despite the fact that I've had three other boys ahead of Jake and they have done some unique things with their pee-pee.

Does this look like a toilet to you? Not to me, either. But apparently, Jake thought it was a good place to relieve himself this morning. Thankfully, several of his siblings are self-proclaimed pee-pee police, and ratted him out.

Seriously...what possesses kids to do stuff like that?! I mean, what is going through their little heads when they make the decision to move forward with a plan of action that is absurd to the rest of society?

So today, I am thankful for outdoor faucets so that certain toys can be hosed down and left outside in the hot sun.

Little Man Jake

Jake had a yearly physical yesterday.

Routine.

Or not.

The doctor checked his eyes and then turned to me and said, "You've been told about the iris in his eye?"

Huh?

All those trips to the pediatrician in Michigan and it was never mentioned.
It turns out that Jake has 'iris coloboma.' One eye is fine. The other has an iris that is oval and goes all the way down to the outer edge of the brown part of his eye. His eyes are so dark brown that I never noticed.

Sometimes the condition affects vision, sometimes not, so he needs to go see an eye doctor. Sometimes iris coloboma is associated with a syndrome that affects the kidneys, so Jake is going to have an ultrasound on Friday. In my over-zealous research on the Internet, I learned that sometimes it can mean a missing kidney.

Since Jake was born with six fingers on each hand, it could be part of a syndrome.

We will find out in a week or so when the results are given to us. In the meantime, I will not give in to the icy fingers of fear that are trying to grip my heart for my little Jakie. I am just very thankful for a thorough doctor who noticed his Jake's eye and wants to check everything out.

Going into the cone of silence

This weekend is the official move, so we are going to be disconnecting the internet tonight. Hopefully we will only be without it for a day.

I have been packing, packing, packing--and then driving the stuff over to the new house and unloading it and putting it away. It's tiring but it's good to have it partially done already.

Try not to envy me, ya'll. hee...

This morning, the little kids stripped the top sheet and comforter off my bed while I was talking to my mother-in-law on the phone. When I eventually hung up, I asked them what in the world they were doing.

Jake: We jumping in da fwimming pool!
Me: The swimming pool?
Jake: Yep...da blanket is da water. We jump of da bed into da water.

Well, ya gotta love their ingenuity.

"Diving" into da pool

Wheee...the water is warm!

Oh...and before I forget...

Jillian had a birthday party last Saturday. She and her friends were sitting out in the screened-in porch when all of a sudden, Jake went running over to the door. He flung it open, grinned at them and said, "Hello, Ladies!"

Oh my goodness, it was SO funny!

The Jakester Strikes Again

The other day Jake started bugging me about something he wanted.

I said no.

He pleaded. He whined. And pleaded some more.

I said no.

And then he said, "Well, then can you go askth Deff?" (Jeff)

Jeff is my husband and I have no clue why Jake thought that using the word 'Jeff' would command more respect and possibly grant him the success he was hoping for.

Needless to say, it didn't work.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Jeff came down with the girls on Saturday morning and told me to come check them out. They were dressed. Hmmm...odd... They normally come down in their pajamas.

It would seem that Jake has a new self-appointed duty.

Choosing the clothing that his sisters should wear for the day.

Because when Jeff asked them why they were dressed, they chorused 'Dakey got us dwessed!' Taking orders from their younger brother does not seem to be an issue for them. I was pretty impressed that they were matching.
Lookin' good--except for the bed head.
