George the Frog

The other night, Jordan happened to be the grand prize winner of the family frog. That's right...Mommy found the frog and this time Jordan decided it was his turn to adopt it.

He really only got it because his sisters were preoccupied with something else.

Suffice it to say, there was no way this frog was going to get named, "Sparkles" or play in a Polly pocket playhouse.

Oh no.

This frog was going to get a manly name. Like George, for instance.

And he was going to do manly things.

The first thing Jordan did was build an airplane out of Legos. He did this while holding the frog in one hand. I was holding my breath, hoping he wouldn't accidentally squish it.

It soon became apparent that it would be too difficult to simultaneously hold the frog while flying a plane, so it was on to some cool race cars.

"Oh yeah...I'm driving. They don't call me 'toad-ly stud muffin for nothin."

And a cool VW bug (I could put a really stupid pun here about frogs and bugs, but I will refrain)

And then for some manly fire fighting...

He took the frog to bed--yes, I let him. I know that it was a foolish decision on my part but Jordan was soooooo sweet and begged me to let him have the frog in his room. I agreed without realizing that he was going to tuck it into bed with him. Oh yes...he put the frog--safely ensconced in it's McDonald paper cup--right between his mattress and his headboard. I tried to talk him out of it. The thing wasn't jumping anymore, so I figured it was not long for this earth.

Now those of you who are judging me and shaking your heads, could you REALLY resist this face? Could you crush this? Yeah...me either.

Heading to bed with George

Sadly, little George just didn't have the stamina to hang out with a five year old and decided to give up the ghost. This brought on some tears and a dignified burial this morning. But at least little froggie had a full life. How many frogs get to fly airplanes, drive super cool race cars, be firemen, and sleep with a very cute little boy?

Not too many, thank goodness.

And all mother's everywhere breathe a big sigh of relief.

"He was a good frog. Good-bye little friend."

Jordan's Fabulous News

Our little Jordan has microtia, a condition where a child is born missing the outer portion of the ear. It can affect one ear or both. Jordan has one ear affected.

He will eventually get a prosthetic, but our ENT in Michigan told us that it would not happen until age 7. This is due to wanting to wait until the child is old enough to only have to do one prosthetic.
He is five now and has been asking quite often when he will get his 'new ear.' Bless his heart. I decided to start the process and see if the answer would be the same at Boston Children's.

I took him today for the first stage...a hearing test. We had been told in Michigan that it was very unlikely that Jordan could hear out of his affected ear.

But today...drum roll...he CAN hear out of that ear!! His cochlea is working PERFECTLY! He still does not hear out of that ear, though, because there is not an open ear canal.

His next step is probably a cat scan to see if he has an ear canal. The doctor he needs to see has a waiting list until Sept. We are on a cancellation list, though, so maybe we will get in sooner.

We are so excited for him!! He was grinning from ear to ear when I told him. I don't think he fully understood, but he new it was good news.
